Honor

Romans 12:10 “Outdo one another in showing honor.” The other day I arranged a play date for my boys with my godson. His mom wrote me this message. “Thanks for doing it John, I know Elaine says you've been very very busy, so really appreciate you taking the time.” It was so simple, but I found myself getting emotional reading it. It really made my day, and got me thinking about the power of showing honor. Last night at dinner we were chatting about how we often neglect showing honor in Asia. Parents will go around and boast about their kids to others, but rarely pay them a compliment directly. A simple “thank you”, or “I’m proud of you” or “you’re a great mom/son/provider/whatever” can go such a long way. I don’t do nearly enough of it. Lord you give us these incredible tools to demonstrate your love to those around us. And of course you gave us the perfect example of showing honor when Jesus died on the cross for us. Thank you for honoring me. I commit to honor those around me more and more each day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
