Genesis 2:24 “That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.” Last night after my last call I walked into our bedroom. Elaine looked at me and asked “what’s up with you? You have this swagger about you.” I replied “well I dunno… God is good! We have offers coming in to buy assets, issued a termsheet for a new investment and of course God’s blessed me with a beautiful wife. And tomorrow we celebrate our 10 year anniversary!” We’ve had our ups and downs, but God has been so good to us in our union. I’m really excited to celebrate today, and I’m also really excited to help other couples experience more of God in their marriages in an upcoming Love After Marriage workshop that Elaine and I will be co-facilitating from September. We went as participants last year and it was the most transformational experience I’ve ever been through hands down. The truth is we’re meant to love everyone as an extension of ourselves, but nowhere is this more exemplified than the covenant of marriage. We love our children deeply, but that is a relationship that is meant to move towards greater independence over time. No other relationship on earth is meant to grow in depth of intimacy the way marriage is. This is why scripture refers to us as the bride of Christ. This is also why the enemy spends a lot of his time attacking marriages. He’s taken some serious ground on that front especially here in Singapore where work and travel often take precedence over deepening matrimony. But I have a feeling we are going to take some serious ground back in the coming months. God you are so good. Thank you for bringing me into relationship with you, and for being at the center of my relationship with Elaine. My swagger is in you and you alone. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
